This track is a 185 mile dual sport that runs between Eagle Rver, Woodruff, and Park Falls. It includes some sporty forest roads, sporty pavement, rustic roads, and about 50 miles of National Forest ATV/Motorcycle trail.

It involves rolling terrain and many twisting roads. The trail in the National Forest is rocky, winding, and rolling. Overall, it is a very entertaining ride.

Longest gas is between Lac du Flambeau and Woodruff (105 miles). Gas is available in Park Falls by way of a side trip making longest gas about 80 miles.

Overview
Image

The east end of the route has some great riding on Vilas Co forest roads.
Image

There is some great twisty pavement in the State Forest.
Image

A variety of action on these segments.
Image

The west end is principally the ATV/motorcycle trail in the National Forest. An out and back alternate gas stop is available.

Even though it was a bright and sunny when I scouted this, I neglected to take any pictures. I wish I had as the scenery is gorgeous and the roads and trails had some notable sections that I wish I had photographed. The topo maps indicate that the terrain drives some rolling and twisty routes.

Short Sporty Run ("Sporty Forty")

Postby Cannonshot » Sun Oct 02, 2011 2:25 pm

This approximately 40 mile loop is intended as a short sporty (rolling and curvy) run for people that might want a brief but fun ride that is close to the Central ADV Rally site in Eagle River.

The tracks may look confusing since there are loops that overlap. Color changes between the track lines are intended to assist the rider in following the right tracks segment where tracks overlap.

This is a fun one.

This track is just under 100 miles and follows the Nicolet National Forest Self-Guided Natural History Auto Tour.

Pick up this guide brochure at the ranger station in Eagle River for information about stops along the way.

HarePare Dual Sport ATV Trail Route

Postby Cannonshot » Sun Oct 14, 2012 9:21 pm

This 172 mile dual sport loop takes in rocky and rolling ATV trails that are part of the Harrison Hills, Parrish Highlands, and Augustyn Springs ATV trails and routes. You must have a licensed dual sport to ride these trails.

There are two starting locations. The one on the west side is at a self serve gas station with trail parking that is also across the street from a bar/restaurant. The other is at Summit Lake in the center of the loop. From Eagle River the west start point is about 40 miles away and Summit Lake is slight farther.

No trail pass is required. Adjacent trails in Oneida county are closed to motorcycles.

This ride can be divided into two loops - east and west.

Kakabika

V-Strommable. This runs you up the highway to Land o Lakes. From there you take to gravel forest roads.

Some points of interest.

Four nice waterfalls on this route. Bond Falls is a beauty.
Image

To see Agate Falls you get on a railroad grade ORV trail for a bit and ride out onto a trestle (with railings). The falls is right beneath you and it is gorgeous. At one time the loggers had to dynamite some of the rock to eliminate some chronic catch points for potential log jams.
Image

Then on to Kakabika Falls. This is a short walk into the woods - real short. Take bug spray for the mosquitoes. I couldn't capture the magnificent beauty of this with a camera because of how it is laid out. It is well worth the visit.

Main drop is beyond the fallen tree in a narrow rock gorge.

I didn't get a good shot of the main falls. You can discover that for yourself.

After Kakabika you can take a cut-off to head back or continue on the track.

Next up is a scenic overlook.
Image

Yondota Falls is the next stop with a slightly longer walk back to the falls. Still close and convenient though. Beautiful rock formations on the way.

After this stop, head to the store in Marenisco for gas. There is an exhibit in the park to take in as well. From there, back onto some narrow and scenic forest roads. I think there is a beaver dam to check out right next to the road as well. Don't hesitate to stop in at some of the boat landings along the way and check out the beautiful lakes.
Image

Once you get to Presque Isle (WI) it is an entertaining ride back on winding and rolling pavement with great scenery.

I'll post the GPX on the other site once I solve a technical issue there.
